No Words Will Ever Do

Year: 1992
Duration: 20 minutes

Country: Geneva, CH and USA

Memory and the act of seeing are the central questions in this video. Massie started making this tape about the loss of her mother, and then realized that it was really about her father and what her mother's death did to him.  Using hundreds of stills taken by Massie's father, who was a well-known photographer, this work tries to understand how family and memory are held together and blown apart by images.

Winner of Best Narrative video at the 17th annual Atlanta Film/Video Festival.
