Just Beyond Hope

Year: 2012

Duration: 73 minutes

Country: Canada

Using Dorothea Lange's incredible archival photos, first person letters and the family newspaper articles of the Rocky Shimpo, Just Beyond Hope creates a dialogue between white and Japanese, Canadian and American, first, second and third generation women reflecting on the internment history of WW2. Each person offers their unique perspective. As these women tell their stories from different points of view, a fractured jigsaw puzzle of the time period builds memory fragment by memory fragment.
